Introduction: TRIAXIAL CELL:

  • Total stresses when measured in a triaxial cell are more complex in their nature. Numurous parameters may be measured inluding back, pressure, pore water pressure and volume change.
  • From these values various engineering properties can be calculated.
  • Triaxial cell is used to apply total stress.
  • The sample is subjected to an alround confining pressure. Load is then applied through piston of triaxial cell on a pressure pad on the top of the specimen.
  • In a triaxial cell, sample is confined in a rubber membrane. Triaxial Cells are manufactured from carefully selected material.
  • The cells are manufactured to accommodate different sizes of specimen. Universal Triaxial Cell accommodates samples of diameters 38 mm to 100 mm.

General Description and Specifications:

  • The cell is useful for testing 38 mm dia x 76 mm high soil specimen.
  • Transparent Perspex chamber with anvil and loading plunger.
  • The cell is easily opened by releasing four nuts of the tie rods.
  • It is leak proof up to 10 kg/cm sq. fluid pressure.
  • An oil plug which can also be used as an air vent is provided for introducing a thin layer of oil over water.
  • This provides effective sealing at the plunger for long duration tests.
  • The cell is fitted with four sleeve packed valves of no volume change type on the base.
  • These valves are used for cell pressure, pore water pressure, drain age or back pressure.
  • The loading plunger of the cell has a dial gauge rest.
  • Loading pad made of Perspex for 38 mm dia specimens.
  • Pair of plain discs made of Perspex 38 mm dia 6 mm thick.
  • Pair of porous stones 38 mm dia x 6 mm thick.
  • Split sand former for 38 mm dia specimen.
  • Sheath stretcher for 38 mm dia specimen.
  • One dozen rubber sheaths for 38 mm dia samples.
  • For synthetic rubber ’O’ rings for 38 mm dia specimen.
  • One plastic drainage tube.

UNIVERSAL TRIAXIAL CELL (STATIONARY BUSHING): Suitable for testing 38 mm, 50 mm, 75 mm and 100 mm. diameter specimens.

General Description and Specifications: Same as above but designed to with-stand 20 kg/cm2 fluid pressure. The Perspex chamber is reinforced.

  • Three parts split mould 38 mm dia with collar, base plate and hinged clamp.
  • End former for 3 mm bore polythene tubes, 4 mm O.D.
  • Three parts split mould 50 mm dia with collar, base plate and hinged clamp.

  • Three part split mould 100 mm dia collar, base plate and hinged clamp.
