WATER HAMMER AND PIPE SURGE APPARATUS:

 

A) RANGE OF EXPERIMENTS:

  • To demonstrate pipe surge and water hammer phenomena.
  • To study the oscillatory characteristics of the surge.
  • To determine the velocity of sound in pipe.
  • Determination of sudden rise in pressure due to sudden closure of value.
  • Visualization of pressure wave profile at different heads.
  • Determination of frictional head loss between reservoir & surge tower.

 

B) SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Pipe surge test pipe: stainless steel, 22mm I/D x 3m long.
  • Surge shaft: clear acrylic, 40mm I/D x 800mm H.
  • Service pump: centrifugal type, delivering 0.5 lit/sec at 3m water head.
  • Flow rate measurement: volumetric tank, stepped, 0-40 liter high flows, 0-6 liter low flows.
  • Head tank: capacity 90-100 liters made from PVC.
  • Pressure transducers: 3 off range,1 to 1 bar, 0.25" BSP connections.
  • 2 Nos. Quick acting Solenoid Valve electrically operated.
  • Electronic control panel.
    • Current to voltage converter as per suitable for sensors.
    • Input and Output terminals for DSO.
    • Solenoid ON/OFF switches.
    • Power supply terminal for sensors.
    • Inbuilt power supply for sensors and conversion.
  • Oscilloscope - dual trace storage oscilloscope [DSO]
    • With online wave streaming recording and storage.
    • Facility to transfer the data to PC.
    • Pressure comparison for water Hammer. ‚Äč{velocity of sound through pressure wave}
